Blood clots in the brain or lungs may be responsible for certain symptoms of long COVID, including brain fog and fatigue, according to a new British study.<\/p>\n

The research team from Oxford and Leicester universities in Britain identified molecular blood signatures linked to brain fog and fatigue in patients who suffered from long COVID.<\/p>\n

The scientists examined blood proteins in more than 1,800 patients who had been hospitalized with coronavirus and found that at the time of infection, those who developed long-term cognitive problems, they were more likely to have elevated levels of a protein called fibrinogen or a protein fragment called D-dimer. According to the researchers, 16% of these patients had problems thinking, concentrating, or remembering for at least six months.
