{"id":7709,"date":"2024-12-20T16:17:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-20T21:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stillcoviding.ca\/en\/?p=7709"},"modified":"2024-12-21T00:39:24","modified_gmt":"2024-12-21T05:39:24","slug":"study-6-of-us-adults-have-long-covid-and-many-have-reduced-quality-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stillcoviding.ca\/en\/news\/study-6-of-us-adults-have-long-covid-and-many-have-reduced-quality-of-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: 6% of US adults have long COVID, and many have reduced quality of life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two new studies paint a comprehensive picture of current long COVID cases in the United States, and both suggest the condition limits daily activities for a significant proportion of those affected.<\/p>\n<h2>About 1 in 5 have daily limitations<\/h2>\n<p>In <i>Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report<\/i> <a target=\"_blank\" lang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/73\/wr\/mm7350a2.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">researchers used data<\/a> collected from the 2023 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a large, population-based cross-sectional survey of US adults, to assess the prevalence of long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>Survey participants were asked about their sex, age, previous COVID-19 illness, current long COVID, and whether they experienced significant activity limitation due to long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>In total 6.4% of those surveyed said they were currently experiencing long COVID.
