Baisse de l’espérance de vie en Atlantique : la COVID-19, principale responsable

[Translated from French]

Life expectancy fell in the four Atlantic provinces in 2022. COVID-19 is one of the causes put forward by Statistics Canada to explain the phenomenon.

This trend is the same across the country. Life expectancy decreased by 0.3 years between 2021 and 2022. This is the third consecutive decline, still slightly larger than last year.

Newfoundland and Labrador has the shortest lifespan in the country, with the exception of the territories. Children born in the province in 2022 hope to live on average a little beyond their 79 years.
