Ottawa Public Health to let go most remaining COVID-19 staff as province ends special pandemic funding

Ottawa Public Health will let go most of its remaining COVID-19 staff by the end of the year as the province stops directly reimbursing most costs related to the pandemic.

OPH will continue offering vaccines to the most vulnerable, including long-term care residents and recent immigrants, but will wrap up broader COVID-19 efforts by the end of March.

Hospitals continue to deal with multiple COVID‑19 outbreaks in Ottawa as rising case counts, outbreaks and wastewater data indicate the city is headed into an anticipated fall viral triple-demic.

Facility-wide COVID-19 outbreak declared at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital

South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) has closed its doors to visitors following a facility-wide COVID-19 outbreak.

In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, the COVID-19 outbreak was declared at the Bracebridge site after eight patients and six staff across four inpatient units tested positive.

Island Health said in a statement the outbreak was declared Thursday at the centre unit of Saanich Peninsula Hospital, with 15 patients infected and all experiencing mild illness.
